Saga, Japan, Spring 2017 – Legnatec and Hirata Chair announce its joint launch of Ariake, a new brand started by two factories from the furniture-producing town of Morodomi in Saga prefecture, Japan.––– Ariake means “morning moon” or “daybreak” in Japanese, and symbolizes a new chapter for Legnatec and Hirata Chair, two leading companies in a town consisting of more than thirty furniture factories. Ariake is also the name of the sea surrounding Saga prefecture, well known for its seaweed andtidal flats.
Consisting of tables, storage and seating furniture made from white oak, sumi dyed ash, indigo dyed ash, hinoki and burnt cedar, the Ariake collection is made with a combination of advanced CNC machines and detailed handcraft.
Design directed by Gabriel Tan Studio, this new brand brings together designers from different countries with a common respect for Japanese culture and woodworking. Anderssen & Voll (Norway), Keiji Ashizawa (Japan), Staffan Holm (Sweden) and Gabriel Tan (Singapore) designed an extensive, 18-piece furniture collection.
